Well, it turns out that our team here in the Gulf of Mexico got to meet a Giant Squid (Architeuthis dux) – the second ever recording of a live animal in-situ!!!!! Its been hard to sit quietly on this news but lots of media arrangements had to be made first. Now I can tell folks. This was one of the coolest biological investigations I’ve ever been a part of. It was a juvenile and was probably only 3 meters (10 feet) long… but I’m sooooo excited.
