Nouï Baiben, our climbing assistant in Madagascar hanging
30 meters above the ground
My Master's research involved Ozark blind cave salamanders, Typhlotriton spelaeus. I undertook a mark/recapture program and investigated population dynamics of the reclusive and mysterious troglobitic amphibians. Along with fellow University of Oklahoma graduate student Mark Walvoord, I travelled to Madagascar in October-November 2001 to work on the French run canopy raft program. We focused on amphibian biodiversity at the various canopy levels of humid Malagasy eastern forests, and characterized specific parameters of microhabitats utilized by frogs there. Information on my doctoral work is forthcoming.
